Global Coffee: Planting Seeds for a New Initiative

A Personal Story about Fair Trade with Global Coffee

I have been a member of Global Coffee for more than a decade. I sincerely believe that Global Coffee provides the best product in the world based upon the most ethical practices. Fair trade practices are the heart of our organization. Our coffee suppliers and laborers matter to our organization. It is for this reason I was happy and excited to not only hear about the new initiative, but to also be able to participate in the Back to the Roots Initiative.

The New Initiative

This initiative focuses on people like me who work for the company and most importantly the beans, that provide our superior quality product.  I have seen the change that fair trade practices bring to coffee suppliers, especially those in developing and under developed countries. This new initiative shows the positive change and effects that fair trade practices bring to our suppliers. The initiative follows the journey of the coffee; from seed, to plant, to bean, to grinding facility, and all the way up to the product being on our shelves. Global Coffee is giving voices to our agricultural workers. We are going back to the values that our company was built upon. Global Coffee is beginning the “To the Roots” initiative. This program will show the journey each can of ground coffee makes and be shown in a printed label on each and every can. This label will sport a map of your coffee's journey and showcase a first-hand account from the proud, fairly paid employees that put their hard work into creating our products.

The journey your coffee makes can also be more intricately followed on our website: www.GCInc.com, as well as on Twitter #BackToTheRoots.  With the help of our website, the consumer will be able to take interactive tours through our facilities around the globe.  These tours will be frequently updated with our new employees and their backstories.  We want to show off our commitment to fair trade practices and get people even more involved in the process and how very essential it is.  These updated platforms offer consumers the opportunity to get further involved in maintaining fair trade practices on their own as well, offering ways to bolster employees’ wages and help make fair trade practices more affordable to every coffee company globally. Global Coffee has been providing superior quality, ethically produced coffee for the last 100 years. We are dedicated to not only the quality of our product but the quality of life for the people who produce it.  You can continue to expect that Global Coffee will remain vigilant in only producing fair trade products, and working hard to further the agenda of fair trade practices.
